We start with Shreiner and Matilda Wolf: Shreiner [Shriener ?] was born in Germany in about 1799 and became a British Subject (according to Ancestry.com). Matilda, who was born in London ca.1809, worked with him as a jeweller and they lived in Broad Row, Great Yarmouth in Norfolk before moving to London and then to Manchester. In 1851 the family were living at 2, Albert Place in Manchester and Shreiner was listed as a ‘curiosity dealer’. Shreiner and Matilda Wolf had at least eleven children, the first nine being born in Great Yarmouth. The children were:

- Aaron (b. ca. 1834)
- Harriet (b. ca. 1835 – married Walter Samuel in 1852 – d. 1908)
- George (a Cape merchant (b. ca. 1837 – m. Bertha probably in the USA – d. 1914, aged 77)
- Emma (b. ca. 1839 – married Alfred Samuel in 1855)
- Annie (b. ca. 1841 – married Isaac White)
- Isaac, a jeweller (b. ca.1843 – married Bloom Philips in 1862/3 – d. 1908, aged about 66)
- Frederick (b. ca. 1846 in London)
- Herbert, a jeweller and exporter of fancy goods (b. ca. 1853 in Manchester – married Ellie White in 1874/5)

Shriever Wolf [Shriener Wolf] was admitted to a lunatic asylum in Liverpool on 8 September 1859 and he died in that institution on the 6 December 1859.
