Breccle Hall, the home of Edwin Montagu. In 191 6, he married Venetia Stanley, daughter of Lord Stanley of Alderley, a noted society hostess who had friends in all the right places. In 191 7, Edwin Lutyens was called in to modernise and update Breccles Hall and to extend and replant the gardens. The Montagus entertained lavishly, and the Rothschilds, the Churchills, the Duff Coopers and various royals were regular visitors.
