Spielmann Family

The Spielmann appears here because Adam Spielmann married Marian Samuel the daughter of Louis Samuel and niece of Moses Samuel. One of Adam’s first partner in business was Jonas Reis who had married Moses’ daughter Marian Samuel. Adam Spielmann (1812-1869), had emigrated from Schokken (now Skoki), near Posen (now Poznan) with his two of brothers. They were the sons of Lewin (Judah) Spielmann of Shocken (now Skoki), near Posen (now Poznan) and of Michelle Meyer. Adam emigrated to England circa 1828. Marian Samuel was born 17 August 1845 at 46, Paradise Street, Liverpool and died on 19 June 1858, at 7 Mecklenburgh Square, London and buried at West Ham.

Adam Spielman aged 38, as ‘Head of Family’, Bullion Merchant, born in Pussen (Posen), his wife Marian Spielman aged 28, born Liverpool, Lancashire, son Lionel A. Spielmann, aged 4, duaghters Amelia Spielmann aged 3 and Dora Spielmann aged 2 Months, all born in London, Middlesex, Samuel Montague, brother in law, Clerk, aged 18 born in Liverpool, George Smith, Clerk, and two servants: Elizabeth Fletcher 21 and Sophia Sharp 20. Below, the 1861 census with Adam as ‘Head of Household’ aged 48, a banker and a widow, born in Prussia, next is Ann Israel aged 72, unmarried, born in Prussia, and then three sons: Isidore aged 6, Meyer aged 4, Marion aged 2, all born in St Pancras, Middlesex. Also included is an 18 year old nephew who is a Banker’s Clerk – Abraham Kulb alos born in Prussia.
