At some point, some of the descendants of Louis Samuel, decided to change their last name to Montagu. This occurred at about the time the first member of the Samuel family was raised to the peerage namely Montagu Samuel who became Samuel Montagu, 1st Baron Swaythling. His son was Louis Samuel Montagu, 2nd Baron Swaythling.
